New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) Yoga serves as a potent method for fostering both mental and physical health, stated Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Ayush, on Thursday.

Jadhav made these remarks during the Yoga Mahotsav 2025, which acts as a precursor to the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025, held in Delhi today.

“Yoga transcends mere lifestyle; it stands as a powerful avenue for ensuring mental and physical health. Its unmatched strength has guided countless individuals globally to remain healthy and resilient during the tough times of the lockdown,” he expressed.

This event marks the commencement of 100 days leading up to the 11th edition of IDY, during which Jadhav also unveiled 10 events that bolster India’s position as a global leader in yoga.

The upcoming IDY on June 21 aims to showcase diverse aspects of yoga while igniting a worldwide movement to promote health, well-being, and peace.

Planned events include a synchronized yoga demonstration across 10,000 locations, targeting a world record; collaborating with 10 countries to host yoga sessions at renowned landmarks; development of 1,000 yoga parks to ensure long-term community involvement; and specialized yoga programs for the disabled, seniors, children, and marginalized groups.

The Ministry also plans to conduct a decade-long impact assessment regarding yoga's contribution to public health; a virtual global yoga summit featuring esteemed yoga experts and healthcare professionals; and a sustainability initiative that merges yoga with tree planting and cleanup activities.

Additional events will focus on attracting young individuals to yoga; a week-long festival across 10 locations culminating in a central celebration led by the Prime Minister; and a 100-day initiative that integrates yoga with modern healthcare for comprehensive wellness.

“In 2.5 crore households — roughly 8 percent of all households in India — at least one individual engages in yoga. This strongly reflects yoga's profound integration into public life,” noted Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush.

On this occasion, the Ayush Minister also launched ‘The International Day of Yoga Handbook, 2025, Version 1.0’ in response to the growing public interest and demand from IDY event organizers for guidance to facilitate preparatory tasks for the International Day of Yoga 2025.
