Lucknow, May 29 (NationPress) The Yogi Adityanath administration has announced its initiative to present 'sindoordani' (Vermillion box) to women participating in mass weddings throughout the state.
This initiative, viewed as a tribute to India's Operation Sindoor—the military actions that avenged the tragic loss of Hindu women's husbands—is receiving praise across the political landscape.
Sindoor (Vermillion) carries significant cultural and religious value for followers of the Hindu faith, as it is worn by every married Hindu woman. Traditionally, sindoor signifies the marital status of Hindu women, who display it on their foreheads.
Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, informed IANS that the state government will provide 'sindoordani' to all newly-wed couples taking their vows at mass marriage events.
"Sindoordani plays a crucial role in any married woman's life. We will distribute it to every mass marriage venue. This will honor the bravery of our armed forces and also celebrate their strength in confronting the nation’s adversaries."
UP Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal remarked that the distribution of 'sindoordani' to newly married couples is a praiseworthy initiative.
"Sindoor is of great significance for any married woman, carrying deep emotional weight. A woman observes fasts and performs penance to safeguard her sindoor. However, the terrorists erased it in their cruel and barbaric act in Pahalgam. The entire nation felt the sorrow of women witnessing the loss of their husbands before their eyes," he stated.
He added, "Under the 'Chief Minister Mass Marriage' scheme, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has raised the amount from Rs 51,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Like a father, he blesses all women to safeguard their vermilion."
Bhupendra Singh Choudhary, the BJP state president, said, "The mass marriage program is an ambitious initiative by the government where individuals from all castes and communities can register their marriages. The government coordinates these mass marriages with various departments to ensure a smooth process."
Importantly, India's military actions against the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack were dubbed 'Operation Sindoor' to honor women as the terrorists extinguished their sindoor in a savage attack, first identifying their husbands by religion and then executing them mercilessly.
