Lucknow, April 12 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, on Friday honored the medieval Rajput sovereign Rana Sanga on his birth anniversary, amidst a political uproar triggered by controversial comments from Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman in the Rajya Sabha.

"On the birth anniversary of the valiant Rana Sanga Ji, who devoted his life to the preservation of religion, I extend numerous salutes to him! His tale of glory, a hallmark of patriotism and sacrifice, stands as a golden chapter in our history. His valor will continue to nourish the spirit of self-respect in India for generations to come," CM Yogi expressed on X on Saturday.

This tribute occurs against a backdrop of controversy ignited after Suman labeled Rana Sanga as a "traitor" during a parliamentary discussion. His statements sparked significant outrage, particularly in Agra, where a large crowd gathered outside Suman’s residence. Members of the Karni Sena attempted to access the MP’s home but were thwarted by police efforts. A clash ensued, resulting in several injuries.

During his parliamentary address, Ramji Lal Suman claimed that Rana Sanga was responsible for inviting Mughal emperor Babur to India to vanquish Ibrahim Lodi.

"BJP leaders frequently assert that Muslims possess Babur’s DNA. However, Muslims in India do not regard Babur as their ideal figure—they honor Prophet Mohammad," he remarked, questioning, "Who was it that brought Babur to India? It was Rana Sanga."

The BJP has called for an apology from Suman, but he remains steadfast in his remarks.

Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has sought to ease tensions, stating, “The contentious chapters of history should not be revisited.”

In the midst of this controversy, the Karni Sena is organizing a large event in Agra on Saturday to celebrate Rana Sanga’s birth anniversary. This rally, named Rakt Swabhiman Sammelan, is anticipated to attract attendees from various states and will feature numerous distinguished guests.

Authorities have implemented stringent security measures to uphold peace and order within the district.
