The Ministry of Ayush hosted the 10th National Ayurveda Day celebrations at the All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Goa.
This event represented a pivotal moment in the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives to advocate for ayurveda as a comprehensive system of health and well-being that is deeply rooted in sustainability and natural living.
In his keynote speech, Jadhav emphasized the increasing global prominence of ayurveda as a holistic healthcare approach.
“The decision to designate September 23 as the permanent date for Ayurveda Day is historic, aligning with the autumnal equinox, which symbolizes balance in nature—central to ayurvedic philosophy,” he stated.
This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” signifies the Ministry’s dedication to positioning ayurveda not only as a health science but also as a model for planetary health and sustainability,” added the MoS.
During the event, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Governor of Goa, praised the extraordinary global expansion of ayurveda, noting that in less than a decade, Ayurveda Day has transitioned from a national celebration to a worldwide health initiative.
“More than 150 countries now celebrate this day, recognizing ayurveda not merely as an alternative therapy, but as a holistic healthcare system,” Raju remarked.
He also commended this year’s theme as particularly relevant to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, highlighted the modern significance of ayurveda in addressing escalating lifestyle-related issues such as obesity, diabetes, and stress.
“The age-old principles of Dinacharya (daily routine) and Ritucharya (seasonal regimen) provide sustainable models for preventive healthcare,” he stated.
Additionally, addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concerns regarding the increasing rates of obesity, Sawant mentioned: “Ayurveda offers simple yet effective strategies such as detoxification, a balanced diet, herbal remedies, and yoga to foster long-term wellness.”
