DigiHaat launches Sahkar Se Samriddhi store on ONDC for cooperatives
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
DigiHaat, the government-backed e-commerce marketplace built on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), on 29 June launched a dedicated 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi Store' and a week-long nationwide campaign to bring cooperative products onto a single digital platform accessible to consumers across India. The campaign runs from 29 June to 6 July, coinciding with five years of the Ministry of Cooperation.
What the Campaign Covers
The initiative brings together products from cooperative societies, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), artisan collectives and producer-led enterprises under one digital storefront. Product categories span groceries, organic foods, handicrafts, handlooms, personal care products and household essentials.
Bharat Organics has joined as the flagship brand partner, anchoring the dedicated storefront with promotional offers, curated product collections and consumer engagement initiatives. The campaign will also feature storytelling and awareness programmes highlighting the contribution of India's cooperative sector.
The Scale of India's Cooperative Ecosystem
India's cooperative movement comprises more than 8.5 lakh registered cooperative societies with nearly 29 crore members engaged in sectors including agriculture, dairy, fisheries, handlooms, rural industries and financial services. According to DigiHaat, despite significant expansion in recent years, many producers continue to face barriers in accessing mainstream e-commerce platforms and nationwide markets.
What DigiHaat and ONDC Aim to Change
Through its ONDC-powered platform, cooperatives, FPOs and SHGs will be able to reach a wider customer base while retaining greater visibility and participation in the digital economy. Shubho Sengupta, Marketing Lead at DigiHaat, said: 'India's cooperative movement represents one of the largest people-led economic ecosystems in the world. As we celebrate five years of the Ministry of Cooperation, we believe the next phase of growth must include stronger digital market access for cooperatives, farmer groups and community enterprises.'
Sengupta added: 'Through the Sahkar Se Samriddhi campaign, DigiHaat is attempting to bridge that gap by connecting producers directly with consumers at a national scale.'
Why This Matters for Rural Producers
The ONDC framework, which underpins DigiHaat, is designed to democratise digital commerce by reducing dependence on proprietary marketplace gatekeepers. For cooperatives and SHGs — many operating in rural and semi-urban India — the platform offers a route to national consumer markets without the high commission structures of conventional e-commerce. Notably, this campaign arrives as the Centre continues to expand the mandate of the Ministry of Cooperation, which was established in 2021 as a standalone ministry under Home Minister Amit Shah.
What Happens Next
The campaign concludes on 6 July. DigiHaat has indicated that the 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi Store' will continue as a permanent feature on its platform beyond the campaign window, suggesting a long-term push to integrate cooperative commerce into India's mainstream digital economy.
