Bhubaneswar, Dec 12 (NationPress) The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has made significant strides by implementing solar-powered CCTV cameras and cutting-edge surveillance drones throughout its operational territory. This initiative is focused on boosting passenger safety, curbing trespassing, enhancing monitoring in isolated regions, and providing improved protection for railway assets and personnel.
As per an official announcement, ECoR has installed solar-powered CCTV systems at critical and vulnerable sites across all three divisions to ensure continuous surveillance in areas lacking reliable power sources.
The Waltair Division has already seen the installation of 113 solar-powered CCTV cameras at locations known for trespassing and in railway yards, with plans to procure an additional 115 cameras.
In the Khurda Division, six solar-based CCTV units have been activated at pivotal positions, and the acquisition of 1,027 more is underway.
Moreover, the Sambalpur Division has deployed 46 solar-powered CCTV cameras at strategically important sites.
“The introduction of these solar-powered CCTV systems is anticipated to greatly enhance public safety in high-risk areas, deter criminal activities, decrease instances of trespassing, and facilitate efficient monitoring in remote locales,” stated ECoR.
These cameras also aid in effective crowd management during peak periods, enable rapid responses in emergencies, enhance post-event analysis, and improve the safety of railway employees.
“This initiative reflects ECoR's dedication to fostering a safer, more secure, and user-friendly railway environment,” highlighted ECoR.
In a related development, ECoR has also launched advanced drones for superior aerial surveillance.
“To complement the ground-based surveillance network, East Coast Railway has expanded its monitoring capabilities with drones. Currently, five surveillance drones are operational,” ECoR added.
The Khurda Road and Waltair Divisions each operate two drones, while the Sambalpur Division manages one.
“These drones are utilized for real-time monitoring of extensive track segments, inspections in remote areas, oversight of railway yards, crowd management during special events, and various security operations,” ECoR informed.
