New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) The plastics sector in India is expected to grow to $44.5 billion by the year 2030 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11 percent. Exports are anticipated to leap from approximately $10 billion in 2025 to $20 billion by 2027, according to a report released on Tuesday.
The PlastIndia Foundation, the leading organization for the plastics industry, indicated that this growth trajectory, moving from a valuation of $26.5 billion in 2025, will be fueled by extensive infrastructure projects and a rising demand from sectors like packaging, automotive, construction, electronics, and healthcare.
Currently, packaging represents nearly 42 percent of the market share, significantly bolstered by the rapid expansion of e-commerce, highlighting the crucial role of the plastics industry in today's commercial landscape, stated Ravish Kamath, President of the PlastIndia Foundation.
The upcoming ‘PLASTINDIA 2026’, touted as the 'world’s largest international plastics exhibition' and India’s first 100 percent zero-waste expo, is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam from February 5–10.
This event is expected to host over 2,000 exhibitors and attract over 600,000 visitors, showcasing the formidable scale, strength, and global competitiveness of the Indian plastics sector, according to Kamath.
The exhibition will highlight innovations in plastic films, industrial components, and specialty polymers, aiming to further increase exports and establish India as a global leader in plastics by connecting domestic manufacturers with international buyers, investors, and technology partners.
Among its features, the event will include a CEO Conclave, a reverse buyer-seller meet, and a Startup Search Initiative in partnership with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, as noted in the report.
The ‘PLASTINDIA 2026’ exhibition will also introduce a 20,000 sq. ft. Open Air Museum, a pioneering initiative in India designed to showcase the positive and responsible applications of plastics through striking sculptures, interactive exhibits, and themed areas.
