Samsung Electronics Aims for AI-Powered Factories by 2030
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Seoul, March 1 (NationPress) Samsung Electronics announced on Sunday its ambitious plan to transition both its domestic and international production facilities into artificial intelligence (AI)-powered factories by 2030, marking a significant step toward manufacturing advancement.
The corporation will implement digital twin-based simulations throughout the manufacturing workflow—from materials storage to production and shipping—while utilizing AI agents focused on quality assurance, production, and logistics to enhance data-driven analysis and verification systems.
This initiative is anticipated to improve both quality and productivity. Additionally, the broader application of AI in managing environmental health and safety is expected to contribute to enhanced workplace safety, as reported by Samsung and the Yonhap news agency.
Building on its AI expertise from the mobile sector, Samsung plans to incorporate “agentic AI,” which was first introduced with the Galaxy S26, into its manufacturing processes. Agentic AI refers to systems capable of autonomously establishing and implementing plans to meet specific objectives.
Furthermore, Samsung aims to progressively integrate humanoid manufacturing robots across its production lines with the ultimate goal of creating optimized smart factories.
"The future of manufacturing innovation lies not just in automation but also in autonomous factories where AI comprehends site conditions and independently makes optimal decisions," stated senior company official Lee Young-soo. "Our goal is to become a global leader in manufacturing innovation driven by AI."
Samsung intends to reveal its industrial AI strategy and vision for digital twin-based manufacturing innovation at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona this month.
At the Samsung Mobile Business Summit (SMBS), occurring alongside the event, the company will also discuss its governance strategy aimed at enhancing oversight as agentic AI expands across various sectors, according to officials.
In parallel, Samsung showcased its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S26 series, which feature advanced AI capabilities, including a privacy display exclusive to the Ultra model.
The South Korean technology giant presented three versions of the series—Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra—each equipped with 6.3-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.9-inch displays, respectively, during the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in San Francisco.
