YouTube Introduces New Feature for Registered Health Experts in India to Connect with Audiences

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) Google-owned YouTube announced on Tuesday innovative features designed to assist Indian viewers in locating reliable health information provided by healthcare professionals.

Expanding on its previously launched health source information panels and health content shelves, the platform is now enabling registered doctors, nurses, mental health experts, and health information providers to make their channels eligible for health product features.

“This initiative will allow us to broaden our reach to include high-quality information from a larger array of healthcare channels,” stated Dr. Garth Graham, Director and Head of YouTube Health, in a blog post.

“This expansion signifies a significant advancement in aiding individuals to more easily discover and engage with content produced by an exceptional community of healthcare creators on YouTube – the intelligent, dedicated, and innovative individuals who are reshaping the way we disseminate medical information,” he added.

The newly introduced feature will simplify the process for users to access high-quality information while steering clear of health misinformation. Healthcare professionals will have the capability to connect viewers with valuable content and respond to their inquiries.

“At YouTube, our goal is to leverage the potential of the internet to assist individuals in finding authoritative information. We aim to provide equitable access to highly credible health information that is grounded in evidence. Our focus is on two primary areas – information quality and information equity,” Graham explained.

Registered health professionals who adhere to best practices for health information sharing, as outlined by the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, the National Academy of Medicine, and the World Health Organization, and maintain a channel in good standing on YouTube, are eligible to apply.

YouTube will assess the applications and validate the credentials of the healthcare professionals applying.

The channels that meet the criteria “will display health source information panels beneath their videos, assisting viewers in recognizing them as trusted sources,” Graham noted. The content from these health creators will also be featured and emphasized within health content shelves when users search for health-related topics.

Additionally, YouTube is broadening its efforts to support more healthcare institutions in creating and promoting authoritative content, encompassing over 140 conditions including both physical and mental health, according to Graham. These resources will be accessible in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, and English.
