YouTube Introduces Innovative Feature for Licensed Health Experts to Connect with Audiences

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) YouTube, a subsidiary of Google, revealed on Tuesday new functionalities designed to assist Indian users in discovering reliable health information provided by healthcare professionals.
Building on its prior initiatives, such as health source information panels and dedicated health content shelves, YouTube is now offering applications for registered doctors, nurses, mental health specialists, and health information providers to have their channels qualified for enhanced health product features.
“This initiative will enable us to broaden our reach by including high-quality information from a more diverse range of healthcare channels,” stated Dr. Garth Graham, Director and Head of YouTube Health, in a blog post.
“This expansion is a significant leap toward making it simpler for individuals to locate and engage with content originating from the remarkable community of healthcare creators on YouTube – the intelligent, committed, and innovative individuals who are revolutionizing how we disseminate medical information,” he elaborated.
The newly introduced feature aims to assist users in discovering high-quality information while steering clear of health-related misinformation. Healthcare professionals will have the capability to connect audiences with beneficial content and address their inquiries.
“At YouTube, we aspire to leverage the power of the internet to guide individuals toward finding high-quality information. We seek to ensure equitable access to authoritative health information that is grounded in evidence. Our focus is on two primary areas – information quality and information equity,” Graham mentioned.
Registered health experts who adhere to best practices for health information dissemination, as outlined by the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, the National Academy of Medicine, and the World Health Organization, and maintain a reputable channel on YouTube can submit applications.
YouTube will assess the applications and verify the credentials of the healthcare professionals applying.
Qualified channels “will feature health source information panels beneath their videos, enabling viewers to recognize them as credible sources,” Graham noted. Content from these healthcare creators will also be included and emphasized within health content shelves when users search for health-related topics.
Furthermore, YouTube is amplifying its efforts to support a greater number of healthcare institutions in creating and promoting authoritative content, encompassing over 140 health conditions, including both physical and mental health, Graham indicated. These resources will be accessible in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, and English.
