Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) India cricketer Tilak Varma announced that fellow teammate Abhishek Sharma has been released from the hospital after being admitted on Monday due to a stomach infection. A final decision regarding his participation in the match against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium will be made on the day of the game.
As reported by IANS earlier, Abhishek had been hospitalized since Monday and missed the training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday evening. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had confirmed during a press conference that Abhishek was suffering from a stomach bug.
“Upon our arrival in Delhi, he (Abhishek) went for a medical check-up. I believe he was discharged today and seems to be recovering well. We still have a day before the game. We’ll assess how he feels tomorrow and make a decision,” Tilak shared with reporters in a pre-match briefing on Thursday.
Tilak also reassured that pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is in good health, but his participation in Thursday's match depends on the team's management's verdict. “He (Bumrah) is feeling much better now. We have one more day, and hopefully, he will return to the squad. If his condition improves, the team will decide on his inclusion. I believe he will be back for the second game,” he added.
Varma expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming high-stakes clash against Pakistan, scheduled at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15. “Honestly, we are very eager to play. We learned about the match just two days ago and are prepared,” he mentioned.
“We are monitoring how other teams are performing. Our batters are observing the bowlers, and the bowling unit is analyzing the batters. Our preparations are ongoing, and we are ready to compete. The match was confirmed two days ago, and every player and team member is set to play. We’re in the match mindset, and planning will commence soon,” he concluded.
