New Delhi, June 25 (NationPress) Adam Lallana, the former England and Liverpool midfielder, has officially announced his retirement from professional football.
The 37-year-old took to social media to share this significant decision, reflecting on his time at Liverpool, Southampton, and Brighton and Hove Albion.
"As I conclude my playing career, I do so filled with immense gratitude and pride. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunities I’ve received and the unwavering support I’ve had throughout this journey. I owe so much to so many people — it’s impossible to name everyone, but I want each of you to know how appreciative I am. I couldn’t have achieved this without you.
"Southampton… the place where it all began, and fittingly where it ends. It’s the club I ultimately owe everything to.
"Liverpool… the opportunity to represent one of the world's greatest clubs and to win some of the most prestigious trophies in the sport.
"Brighton… a home to some of the most fulfilling years of my life, at a club that is deeply connected to its community and operated in such a progressive, modern manner.
"And England… every single cap was incredibly meaningful to me. Representing my country was the highest honor," Lallana expressed on his social media.
The Englishman dedicated six years to Anfield after being signed from Southampton in the summer of 2014.
His first season with the Reds under Brendan Rodgers saw him make 41 appearances and score six goals, but his influence grew significantly after Jurgen Klopp took over in October 2015.
Following Liverpool's runner-up finishes in both the League Cup and Europa League during Klopp’s inaugural season, Lallana played a pivotal role in reclaiming Champions League qualification in the 2016-17 season, contributing eight goals and seven assists in the league.
Unfortunately, injuries hindered the No. 20 from consistently showcasing his talent in the subsequent seasons, even as the Reds achieved successive European Cup final appearances in 2018 and 2019.
In the first final, he was brought on during the first half of the loss to Real Madrid in Kyiv, and a year later, he was on the bench as his teammates lifted the trophy with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The 2019-20 season marked a memorable farewell for Lallana at Liverpool, beginning with a UEFA Super Cup victory, followed by a FIFA Club World Cup triumph, and concluding with a Premier League winner’s medal.
At the end of that extended season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he bid farewell to Anfield, having made 178 appearances and scored 22 goals.
He later returned to the south coast to join Brighton & Hove Albion, where he made 104 appearances and netted four goals before departing in 2024.
Lallana returned to Southampton for what would ultimately be his final season as a professional player.
Additionally, he earned 34 caps for England, scoring three times.
