Ras Al Khaimah, Jan 26 (NationPress) Veer Ahlawat experienced a decline on the leaderboard during a chaotic day, recording five birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey, resulting in a 1-over 73 in the third round of the Ras Al Khaimah Championship. He currently stands at 5-over for 54 holes, positioned at T-36.

India’s other participant in the tournament, Shubhankar Sharma, had previously missed the cut.

Ahlawat, competing in his second tournament after earning his playing rights on the DP World Tour by leading the Indian PGTI Tour Order of Merit, had been at T-15 after two rounds with scores of 70-69. He began his third round with a birdie but lost shots on the subsequent two holes, followed by a par.

A birdie on the fifth hole was succeeded by a bogey, and another birdie on the eighth brought him back to even par at the turn, with three birdies, three bogeys, and three pars. On the tenth hole, he recorded a double bogey before stringing together five pars. Birdies on the 16th and 18th holes, interspersed with a bogey, concluded his round at 73.

Alejandro del Rey from Spain displayed a remarkable short game, taking a two-stroke lead over Marcus Armitage. Del Rey commenced the day two shots behind Armitage but turned the tables with an impressive round of 66, placing him two strokes ahead at 16 under par, setting up an exciting final-day showdown as the two distanced themselves from the rest of the field.
