Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on 29 July 2026 announced the launch of an 'Ahmedabad Experience Centre' in Glasgow, running from 30 July to 2 August during the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026, as Ahmedabad prepares to host the centenary edition of the Games in 2030. The initiative is designed to introduce international sports federations, athletes, and delegates to Gujarat's sporting infrastructure, cultural heritage, and hospitality ahead of India's hosting of the multi-sport event.

What the Ahmedabad Experience Centre Offers

The centre, inaugurated on Wednesday evening, serves as a dedicated showcase for Ahmedabad's world-class facilities and India's diversity. Authentic dishes representing various states across India are being served at the venue through 2 August, offering international visitors a curated taste of the country's culinary breadth.

Small interactive sessions are also being hosted at the centre, with representatives from sports federations and athletes from multiple countries in attendance. The format is intended to move beyond a static exhibition — functioning instead as a live engagement platform for the global sporting community.

Ground-Zero Learning for 2030 Readiness

Sanghavi noted that an Ahmedabad delegation has been embedded in Glasgow's operational framework, attending training sessions from 7 am to 9 am daily to study the logistics, standards, and nuances required to host large-scale international tournaments. 'Staying on ground zero, our team is participating in the training sessions from 7 am to 9 am every day,' he told reporters.

This on-ground learning approach reflects a deliberate preparation strategy — absorbing best practices directly from an active CWG host city rather than relying solely on documentation or advisory inputs. Notably, the 2030 Commonwealth Games will mark the centenary edition of the event, raising the stakes for Ahmedabad's organisational delivery.

'For sports diplomacy, a very unique effort has been made through the Ahmedabad Experience Centre. Through this new effort, an excellent attempt is underway to connect the world to India through Ahmedabad,' Sanghavi said.

The centre is positioned as more than a promotional exercise — it is Gujarat's formal introduction to the international sporting ecosystem at a moment when global federations are beginning to assess Ahmedabad's hosting credentials.
