Narainpur (Chhattisgarh), April 13 (NationPress) Andhra Pradesh secured a decisive 4-1 victory against Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in Group F of the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men's National Football Championship (NFC) 2025, held at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, on Sunday.
The winning team led 3-1 by halftime. Marappa Gowda Sethu Madhav (8’), B. Bharat Kumar Reddy (37’), B. Veera Sai Harsha Vardhan (43’), and Badri Surendra Babu (72’) each netted a goal for Andhra Pradesh. Nikhil Nayak (32’) was the sole scorer for the losing team.
As a result of consecutive losses in the three-team group, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu were eliminated from the tournament. Although Andhra Pradesh celebrated this win, they face a tough challenge to advance to the quarterfinals.
The defending champions, Delhi, are also in the group and have earned three points after an astounding 14-0 defeat of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. A draw in their next match would suffice for Delhi to reach the last eight, while Andhra Pradesh must secure a victory to advance.
Andhra Pradesh initiated the scoring early, with Sethu Madhav finding the net in the eighth minute amidst a crowd in the opponent's box. Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu equalized in the 32nd minute through a free kick taken by Nikhil Nayak.
However, their celebration was short-lived as Bharat Kumar Reddy and Harsha Vardhan scored two goals before halftime to seize control of the match. Substitute Surendra Babu extended the lead in the second half, effectively sealing the game, according to reports from the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) on Sunday.
On Monday (April 14), the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men's National Football Championship 2025 will feature matches in Group E. Telangana is set to compete against Chandigarh in an early morning clash at 7:30 am, followed by Pondicherry facing Uttarakhand at 4:15 pm.
