New Delhi, Dec 19 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Abhinav Mukund praised Auqib Dar's long-anticipated opportunity in the Indian Premier League (IPL), after the pacer from Jammu and Kashmir secured an impressive Rs 8.40 crore deal with Delhi Capitals during the recent mini-auction.
Mukund emphasized that Delhi Capitals required a bowler to partner with veteran Australian pacer Mitchell Starc in their lineup for the upcoming IPL season, and he believes Auqib is the ideal choice for that role.
Commencing at a base price of Rs 30 lakh, Auqib ignited a fierce bidding contest among Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Sunrisers, ultimately leading to the 29-year-old from Baramulla being acquired by DC.
"I am incredibly thrilled for Auqib Dar. He has dedicated many years to Jammu and Kashmir and now finally earns his chance on such a prestigious platform. Delhi Capitals needed effective powerplay bowling options. While some may doubt his death bowling, he will certainly gain invaluable experience playing in a challenging venue like Delhi.
"Following last year's challenges with Natarajan's injury, they opted for multiple pacers. They sought someone to initiate the bowling alongside Mitchell Starc, and they envision Auqib in that capacity, which is a truly heartwarming story," he expressed.
Having been a reliable wicket-taker across formats in domestic cricket recently, Auqib primarily excels as a swing bowler. Lately, the Jammu & Kashmir bowler has also enhanced his skill set, particularly in death-overs, which has greatly increased his market value.
The co-owner of Delhi Capitals, Parth Jindal, stated that they required a bowler who can swing the ball, and Auqib is the "ideal candidate for this role."
"We sought someone capable of swinging the ball and securing early breakthroughs. Auqib Dar emerged as the perfect fit, which is why we closely monitored him throughout the current domestic season. He is an exciting talent, and we went above and beyond to acquire him. We are genuinely delighted to welcome a player from Jammu and Kashmir," Jindal mentioned.
