Baramulla, Dec 17 (NationPress) Following the remarkable acquisition of Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Dar by the Delhi Capitals for ₹8.40 crore in the IPL 2026 mini auction, his father, Ghulam Nabi Dar, expressed immense pride in this achievement. However, he stated that the primary objective now is to see his son secure a spot on the Indian national team.
Starting with a base price of ₹30 lakh, Auqib ignited a fierce bidding battle between the Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, eventually joined by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The competition concluded with the 29-year-old pacer from Baramulla being acquired by the Delhi Capitals.
"Words cannot describe my joy… Now, the only goal left is for him to make it to the Indian team. Every parent dreams of their child’s success," Ghulam Nabi told IANS.
A prolific wicket-taker in domestic cricket over recent seasons, Auqib Nabi (registered as Auqib Dar) primarily excels as a swing bowler. Recently, he has added new skills to his repertoire, particularly in the death overs, enhancing his market value.
His performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy reflects this growth: achieving 15 wickets in seven matches, with an economy rate below eight, highlighting his hard work. He has previously served as a net bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Nabi made his Ranji Trophy debut for Jammu and Kashmir in 2020, showcasing his talent with a three-wicket haul against Karnataka in the quarter-finals. Last season, he was in exceptional form, capturing 49 wickets in nine matches at an impressive average of 13.08.
Earlier this year, Nabi made headlines by taking a five-wicket haul, which included four wickets in four deliveries during the 2025-26 Duleep Trophy clash between North Zone and East Zone.
