New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) Tahlia McGrath, Australia’s acting captain for the forthcoming women’s T20I series against New Zealand, expressed the team’s ambition to conclude their 2024/25 international season successfully. The first match of the three-match T20I series will take place in Auckland on Friday.

"I’m genuinely thrilled about the chance to lead the team again. Working alongside Ash as vice-captain is always enjoyable, and as a group, we’re eager to commence what has been an extensive season for us and hopefully conclude with a series win here in New Zealand.

"It’s an unusual situation for us. Just three T20s at this stage, with our primary focus on the 50-over World Cup and a brief break. However, it's an excellent opportunity for us, considering there are few T20s on the international calendar before the upcoming World Cup.

"Every moment we don the Australian jersey is a valuable chance to enhance our capabilities as a team," Tahlia shared with reporters on Thursday.

The fast-bowling all-rounder also mentioned her anticipation of a tough challenge from a nearly full-strength New Zealand squad, particularly with the return of Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr, and Lea Tahuhu. “They’re almost at full strength, New Zealand. We’re bracing for a fiercely contested match, ideally with a vibrant crowd, especially during double headers, and hopefully a few Australians in attendance.

"We will need to bring our best game. They have some world-class players - Devine, Kerr, Tahuhu - all returning, and their lineup is filled with superstars. We are eager for the challenge and can’t wait to kick things off tomorrow."

The series opener on Friday will also celebrate Beth Mooney’s 200th international match, and Tahlia paid a heartfelt tribute to her. “A remarkable milestone for Moons. Representing your country in 200 games is a significant accomplishment. She is the epitome of consistent performance.

"She always provides us with a fantastic start with the bat. She tends to fly under the radar, but she has stepped up this year with the gloves and has played a vital role in our team. She is a wonderful teammate, always looking out for her colleagues. I’m excited to take the field with her tomorrow and commemorate this special milestone," she concluded.
