New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made an announcement regarding its search for applicants for the role of spin bowling coach at its Centre of Excellence (COE) located in Bengaluru. Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications by 5 p.m on April 10.
This announcement follows the resignation of former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule, who had served as the spin-bowling coach at the COE for three years. He has taken on a similar role with the IPL 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals for the current season.
Bahutule contributed to several India A series and was part of the coaching staff during India's tour of Ireland for a T20I series and their gold medal achievement at the Asian Games in 2023. He also served as the bowling coach for the India men’s team during their white-ball tour of Sri Lanka and the T20I tour of South Africa in 2024.
According to the job description provided by the BCCI, the spin bowling coach plays a crucial role in enhancing and developing India's spin bowling talent across various formats and age groups. This includes senior teams (both men & women), India A, U-23, U-19, U-16, and U-15 squads, as well as state association players training at the COE.
“The Spin Bowling Coach will collaborate closely with the Head of Cricket at BCCI COE to create and implement specialized coaching programs and assist in monitoring performance. This role also involves working hand-in-hand with selectors, national and state coaches, performance analysts, and strength & conditioning experts to devise high-performance training plans,” the BCCI stated.
The primary responsibilities of the spin bowling coach will include planning and executing training sessions for cricket squads at the COE, offering one-on-one technical coaching to players as needed, and developing and overseeing individual player performance plans with measurable objectives.
The ideal candidate must also engage with other specialist coaches, selectors, and support staff to identify and nurture promising spin bowlers, utilize cutting-edge technologies like GPS-enabled devices and biomechanical analysis to improve player performance, and support injury rehabilitation protocols while certifying players as fit for competition.
To qualify for the position, candidates should be former India or first-class cricketers with a minimum of 75 First Class matches and a proven record of cricket coaching for at least 3 years (within the last 7 years) at a high-performance centre, International, India A, India U-19, India Women, or an IPL team.
Additionally, qualified candidates can include those who are BCCI COE Level 3 Performance Coaches (or equivalent) with a commendable record of cricket coaching for a minimum of 3 years (within the last 7 years) at a High-Performance Centre, International, India A, India U-19, India Women, IPL, or State team.
The qualifications criteria also cater to those holding a BCCI COE Level 2 Coach (or equivalent) designation, boasting a stellar record of cricket coaching for at least 3 years (within the last 7 years) at a high-performance centre, international, India A, India U-19, India Women, or an IPL team, or someone with a successful background in high-performance planning and monitoring, as well as designing and implementing player development plans and programs in elite settings.
