Is BCCI Aware of the Venue Change for Bangladesh's T20 World Cup Matches?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India has not been informed by the International Cricket Council regarding the rumored relocation of Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches. He emphasized that the matter is currently being discussed between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ICC.
India and Sri Lanka are scheduled to jointly host the T20 World Cup starting on February 7. However, the BCB has sent a letter to the ICC requesting a venue change for its matches to Sri Lanka, due to security issues stemming from rising tensions in the region. The BCB confirmed that they have received a response from the ICC, which assured them that the situation is being reviewed.
Reports on Monday suggested that the ICC is evaluating alternative venues for Bangladesh's matches, raising doubts about their potential participation in Sri Lanka. Instead, Chennai and Trivandrum are emerging as possible new locations, replacing the initially planned venues of Kolkata and Mumbai.
Nevertheless, Saikia noted that there has been no correspondence received by the BCCI on this issue.
“The BCCI has not been informed about any adjustments regarding the relocation of Bangladesh’s matches to Chennai or any other location. This is a matter of dialogue between the BCB and the ICC, the governing authority. Should the ICC communicate any decisions to us about venue changes, the BCCI, as the host, will undertake the necessary actions. At this moment, we are not aware of any such updates,” stated Devajit Saikia in a conversation with IANS.
As per the current schedule, Bangladesh is set to play three matches – against the West Indies on February 7, against Italy on February 9, and against England on February 14 in Kolkata, before moving to Mumbai to compete against Nepal on February 17.
