New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) The reigning champions of Pro Kabaddi Season 6, Bengaluru Bulls, are determined to reclaim the PKL title in Season 12 after a disappointing last season. Head coach BC Ramesh emphasized that while the team is well-rounded, the primary focus this year is to establish one of the top defensive units.
To enhance their defense, the Bulls have made a significant investment by acquiring right corner Yogesh Dahiya for a record Rs 1.125 crore, marking him as the most expensive Indian defender in PKL auction history.
Additionally, they have reinforced their defensive lineup with seasoned left corner Ankush Rathee at his base price of Rs 30 lakh, as well as right cover Sanjay Dhull, left cover Dheeraj, and several other promising defenders including Lucky Kumar (right cover), Deepak S (left corner), Shubham Rahate (left cover), Manish, and Satyappa Matti (right cover).
"This season, our emphasis is squarely on our defense. Our objective is to form one of the leading defensive units. We have recruited India’s finest defenders for the two corner slots, alongside two or three solid backup players. The team is exceptionally balanced, and everyone plays a role," coach Ramesh remarked during the Media Day held by JioStar ahead of PKL 12.
He further elaborated on the Pro Kabaddi League’s role as a significant platform for promoting kabaddi, stating, "Pro Kabaddi League has elevated the sport tremendously. Kabaddi is now the second most-watched sport in India. It has opened doors for players from rural backgrounds, transforming many into household names.
"In the past, kabaddi players faced challenges in gaining recognition, but now people seek out their photographs. Government sectors such as Income Tax, Customs, and state governments are offering employment opportunities. The sport is not just enhancing the lives of players but uplifting entire families. Kabaddi has genuinely revolutionized lives.”
