Auckland, March 21 (NationPress) New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell expressed admiration for Hasan Nawaz following his extraordinary batting performance, as the right-hander achieved Pakistan's fastest T20I century, aiding his team in chasing down 205 runs with 24 balls remaining in the third T20I held at Eden Park on Friday.
The 22-year-old made his debut in the current series and faced two consecutive ducks, but he made a significant impact on the international scene with a stunning 44-ball century, eclipsing Babar Azam's former record.
Bracewell contributed a swift 31 runs in the first innings, while Michael Chapman’s explosive 94 helped the Black Caps reach 204 before being dismissed on the second to last delivery. The all-rounder also remarked that failing to complete the innings in T20Is is unacceptable.
"We are disappointed with the outcome. Tip your hat off to Nawaz, he was incredible. Defending was challenging tonight, and while credit goes to him, we are still disheartened. We did not bat the full 20 overs, which is unacceptable in T20s. It’s essential to adjust as conditions evolve," Bracewell stated during the post-match presentation.
Following tough losses in the first two matches, Pakistan's remarkable nine-wicket win kept the Men in Green's hopes alive in the five-match series. The right-handed opener also reflected on his innings and expressed gratitude towards new captain Salman Ali Agha for his support.
"I was really disheartened after how I got out in the first two games, but the captain and Shadab motivated me, reassuring me that I am a match-winner, which helped immensely. I was focused on scoring a single first in international cricket, and once I achieved that, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I am incredibly grateful for my captain's backing," Nawaz remarked.
