Bumrah Leads as Captain, Jaiswal Among Indians in Cricket Australia's 2024 Test Team

Melbourne, Dec 31 (NationPress) Cricket Australia has announced that India’s exceptional fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will serve as the captain of the Men's Test Team of the Year for 2024. The talented opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the other representative from India, joining a diverse playing XI that includes players from six different countries.

From Australia, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood are also part of this multinational lineup.

The team features prolific England batters Joe Root, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook, along with New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry. South Africa's Keshav Maharaj and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis are the only representatives from their respective nations.

Throughout 2024, India’s 22-year-old batting sensation Jaiswal displayed remarkable maturity. His back-to-back double centuries in February played a crucial role in clinching a home Test series victory against England, followed by a significant 161-run performance in Perth. He established records for the most runs scored by an Indian opener in a single calendar year, as well as the highest number of sixes (36) globally in a year.

England’s Duckett stood out with his aggressive batting style, registering centuries in Rajkot (153) and Multan (114) even in the face of defeats. His strike rate of 87.04 further emphasized his importance in England's aggressive strategy.

Root contributed six centuries in 2024, including notable hundreds against Sri Lanka at Lord’s and an impressive unbeaten 262 in Multan, which was pivotal in England's astonishing victory over Pakistan. His consistent performances and all-round contributions, including 11 wickets, marked another outstanding year.

New Zealand’s Ravindra outshone Kane Williamson with his exceptional performances in a historic series win in India, highlighted by a match-winning 134 in the first Test and a double-century against South Africa at home.

Brook impressed with series-defining centuries against New Zealand and a remarkable 317 in Multan, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure.

Mendis from Sri Lanka transitioned from being a fringe player at the beginning of the year to achieving 1,000 runs in just 13 innings, equalling Bradman’s record, which included four centuries, marking a breakout year.

Australia's Carey excelled as a wicketkeeper with 46 dismissals, while his unbeaten 98 in Christchurch was one of the standout fourth-innings performances of the year.

Henry emerged as New Zealand’s leading bowler, highlighted by his exceptional figures of 5-15 against India.

Bumrah had a historic year in 2024, taking 71 wickets in 13 matches at an impressive average of 14.92, establishing himself as a key bowler.

Hazlewood maintained his high standards with a bowling average below 14, and Maharaj from South Africa played a crucial role in consecutive series victories, securing his position in this elite XI.
