Abu Dhabi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has been secured by Kolkata Knight Riders for an astonishing amount of Rs. 25.20 crore during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) auction at the Etihad Arena. This remarkable deal makes him the most costly overseas player in the tournament's history.
As the bidding soared past the Rs 25 crore threshold, Green eclipsed the previous record held by his Australian teammate Mitchell Starc, who was acquired by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
In terms of overall auction history, he ranks third, following Rishabh Pant (acquired for Rs 27 crore by Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 mega auction) and Shreyas Iyer (who fetched Rs 26.75 crore in the IPL 2025 auction).
Green initially went up for bidding at his base price of Rs. 2 crore, sparking a competitive bidding war between KKR and Rajasthan Royals, which withdrew at the Rs. 13 crore mark.
Shortly after, Chennai Super Kings, who have won the championship five times, entered the fray, intensifying the competition. Both KKR and CSK were among the teams with the largest budgets, with KKR having Rs. 64.30 crore and CSK Rs. 43.40 crore.
After a series of nail-biting moments and deliberations among their respective teams, Green became the first player of the night to surpass Rs. 20 crore, ultimately finalizing his transfer for a staggering 25.20 crore.
According to the new IPL regulations, Green is unable to surpass his 2023 price as a new cap limits overseas players to a maximum of Rs 18 crore. He will receive Rs 18 crore, while the remaining Rs 7.20 crore will contribute to player welfare initiatives.
Green's latest appearance in the IPL was during the IPL 2024 season, where he played for RCB. Over 12 innings, he scored 255 runs at a strike rate of 143.25 and took 10 wickets in 13 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 8.61. He had also previously played for Mumbai Indians before his trade.
