Why is Cam Green So Excited About Joining KKR?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 16 (NationPress) Australian all-rounder Cameron Green grabbed headlines on Tuesday after being acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a stunning amount of Rs. 25.20 crore during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, currently taking place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
Due to an error made by his manager during the registration for the auction, Green was listed as a batter. However, he later confirmed that he would also be available for bowling during the tournament.
By declaring himself as an all-rounder, he set a new record, overtaking his fellow Australian teammate Mitchell Starc, who was purchased by KKR for Rs. 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
Cameron made his IPL debut in the 2023 season after being signed by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs. 17.5 crore. At that time, he became the second-most-expensive overseas player in IPL auction history, the third-most expensive player overall, and the highest-priced Australian player.
“I’m incredibly excited to join Kolkata for this year’s IPL, look forward to being at Eden Gardens, soaking in the atmosphere, and hoping for a fantastic season for us. See you soon,” Green mentioned in a video shared by the franchise across their social media platforms.
Green entered the auction with a base price of Rs. 2 crore, which ignited a bidding war between KKR and the Rajasthan Royals as soon as his name was called.
The Royals opted out when bids soared to Rs. 13 crore. At that point, the Chennai Super Kings, five-time champions, entered the fray, heightening the competition. KKR and CSK, with available funds of Rs. 64.30 crore and Rs. 43.40 crore respectively, went head-to-head in the bidding, with KKR eventually securing the Australian's services.
