Hamilton, April 1 (NationPress) New Zealand cricketer Mark Chapman will be sidelined for the second Chemist Warehouse ODI against Pakistan in Hamilton on Wednesday (IST) due to a right hamstring injury. Chapman incurred the injury while fielding during the first ODI in Napier, and a follow-up MRI scan indicated a grade one tear that necessitates a brief rehabilitation period.

Chapman, who notched an impressive 132 runs in the series opener at McLean Park, will return to Auckland for recovery, aiming to be fit for the third and final ODI at Bay Oval on Saturday.

In Chapman's absence, top-order batter Tim Seifert will join the squad in Hamilton. Seifert comes off a stellar T20I series against Pakistan, where he topped the charts with 249 runs at an average of 62.

Kiwis coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment regarding Chapman's injury, acknowledging its impact on the team.

“It’s obviously unfortunate for Mark, especially after a remarkable innings in the opening ODI in Napier. We’re grateful that the hamstring injury is minor, and we hope Mark can complete his rehabilitation to be available for the final match of the summer in the Mount,” Stead stated.

While selection for the ODI squad prioritized players with full national and domestic contracts, Stead noted that Seifert's recent performance justified his inclusion.

“With several new faces in this squad, it’s fantastic to have a player of Tim’s caliber available. He’s in good form following a great T20 series and provides a solid top-order batting option as we approach an important match tomorrow,” Stead added.

The Kiwis have been performing strongly against Pakistan on their home ground throughout the white-ball series. Following a dominant 4-1 series victory in the T20 format, they commenced the 50-over series on a high note, with Chapman’s 132 runs and a late-order collapse from Pakistan, spurred by Jamie Smith and Jacob Duffy, leading the Black Caps to a 73-run victory.
