New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have selected Ayush Mhatre as the injury substitute for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is sidelined from IPL 2025 due to an elbow fracture. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have brought in Smaran Ravichandran to fill the gap left by the injured Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa.

Mhatre, a player for Mumbai in domestic cricket, has participated in nine first-class matches and seven List A games, accumulating 962 runs. This 17-year-old right-handed batsman made history by surpassing Yashasvi Jaiswal's record as the youngest player to score over 150 runs in List A cricket last year, joining CSK for INR 30 lakh.

Originating from Virar, a suburb near Mumbai, Mhatre has yet to compete in T20 cricket but scored 176 runs in three matches for India during the 2024/25 Men’s U19 Asia Cup held in the UAE and attended mid-season trials with CSK.

Currently, CSK is engaged in its seventh match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium on Monday night. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, they will face Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20.

On the other hand, Ravichandran, the latest signing for SRH from Bengaluru, has played seven first-class games, ten List A matches, and six T20s, scoring over 1100 runs in total.

The 21-year-old left-handed batsman, who represents Karnataka in domestic competition, scored 516 runs during his team's successful Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign earlier this year, joining SRH also for INR 30 lakh. SRH, currently in the ninth position on the points table, will next compete against the seventh-ranked Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
