New Delhi, April 16 (NationPress) The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have clinched the championship title five times, are facing a major setback in their IPL 2026 journey as left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to a quadricep injury.

“Khaleel Ahmed is sidelined from IPL 2026 after suffering a right quadricep injury during the match against KKR. We wish him a quick recovery,” stated the franchise on their 'X' account on Thursday.

During the match held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, Khaleel, 28, had to leave the field after experiencing discomfort while running in for his delivery. Initially believed to be cramping, he soon clutched his right leg in pain, prompting teammate Gurjapneet Singh to complete the over.

“The injury has also resulted in tears in the quadriceps. Khaleel might need surgery if required. This is a serious setback for a fast bowler, as injuries in this area typically take a long time to heal, and rehabilitation must be approached with great care,” remarked an IPL insider.

As the IPL 2026 season heats up, Khaleel's absence leaves a significant gap in the CSK bowling lineup. The team is already operating without MS Dhoni, who is recovering from a calf injury, and Spencer Johnson, who is expected to join the squad shortly as he recovers from a back stress fracture.

Currently, seamers Mukesh Choudhary and Ramakishna Ghosh are the other available options for CSK to fill the void left by Khaleel. Choudhary can serve as a direct replacement for Khaleel, while Ghosh, a right-arm quick, adds considerable value as a capable lower-order batsman, having had a standout performance for Maharashtra in the 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

With two victories from five matches, the CSK team, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, is set to visit Hyderabad to face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium this Saturday evening.

Point of View

The ruling out of Khaleel Ahmed due to injury represents a critical challenge for the Chennai Super Kings. His absence not only impacts the bowling lineup but also tests the depth and resilience of the team, especially as they navigate the competitive landscape of IPL 2026 without key players.
