Mumbai, April 6 (NationPress) During his tenure with the Mumbai Indians, Tim David has had multiple encounters with Jasprit Bumrah in the practice nets. However, on Monday, he is set to challenge Bumrah as the Mumbai Indians clash with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium.
Recognized as one of the premier bowlers in the death overs, Bumrah is expected to face off against the 29-year-old David, who is likely to bat towards the end of the innings. What insights has the RCB hitter gained from his time in the nets with Bumrah that he intends to utilize in their upcoming showdown?
The Australian player, who hails from Singapore, stated that he plans to keep his toes out of the firing line due to Bumrah’s notorious yorker.
"I’ll make sure to get my toes out of the way because he has a pretty lethal yorker. He’s an exceptional bowler. Delivering strong performances against top teams and players brings the greatest satisfaction as a player. I eagerly anticipate the challenge against the best," Tim David expressed during the pre-match press conference.
Bumrah is making his return after a significant injury break, having recovered from a lower back injury sustained during the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy a few months ago. He has missed the first four matches of the Mumbai Indians but is expected to take the field to bowl the opening delivery on Tuesday.
David, who was part of the Mumbai Indians from 2022 to 2024, hopes that Bumrah’s first delivery will result in a four or a six.
"For us to succeed in this tournament, we need to overcome the best teams and players. I hope Boom (Bumrah’s nickname) bowls the first ball tomorrow night, and it goes for four or six from whoever is batting for us," he said.
"That would make a strong statement, and it's fantastic to have him back in the tournament since the game is undoubtedly more exciting with him in it," he added.
David mentioned that returning to Mumbai is a mix of emotions as he cherishes many wonderful memories associated with the city.
"It’s bittersweet coming back to Mumbai. There are plenty of cherished memories and good friends to reconnect with. This is an interesting aspect of the first year in the new IPL cycle," remarked Tim David, noting that all RCB players are available for selection.
In his three matches with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru so far, Tim David has amassed 54 runs at a strike rate of 207.69, with a top score of 32. Known for his ability to hit big, David represented Singapore from 2019 to 2020 before switching allegiance to Australia, where he was part of the squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
