Munich, March 25 (NationPress) FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for an extended duration as the left-back has been diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee after returning from international duty with the Canadian national team. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old player will be unavailable for the German record champions for several months.

In addition to Davies, Dayot Upamecano has also been sidelined for the upcoming weeks due to the diagnosis of loose bodies in his left knee, which means he too will not be available to FC Bayern for a significant time.

"Unfortunately, there’s always the chance of players returning from international breaks with injuries - this time we’ve been particularly affected. The absence of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano is a significant blow to FC Bayern. Phonzy will receive all the necessary support on his journey to recovery.

We are also monitoring Upa closely in the subsequent weeks and anticipate his return soon. We possess a strong squad and will adapt to these losses. This will bring us closer together. The quality is there to continue striving for our major objectives," said FC Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl.

Davies sustained the injury early in Canada’s 2-1 victory over the USA in California and this is a major concern for the Bavarian club, especially after he recently signed a contract extension with the Canadian national team until June 2030.

Davies joined Munich as a teenager in the 2018/19 season from the Vancouver Whitecaps and has been with Bayern since he was 18. He has made 226 competitive appearances for the club, netting 14 goals and providing 34 assists.

He has clinched the Bundesliga title five times, as well as the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, two DFB Cups, and three German Supercups.
