Gurugram, Jan 15 (NationPress) A total of fifteen LIV Golf League stars and nine winners from the Asian Tour’s 2024 season will compete at the USD 2 million International Series India, marking one of the most distinguished fields ever seen in a golf event on the Indian subcontinent. Reigning major champion Bryson DeChambeau, who achieved top-six finishes in three out of four Majors in 2024, including a victory at the US Open, leads an impressive roster at the International Series India.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 2 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram.

Six players from last year’s top 20 in the LIV Golf League will participate as India joins the ranks of countries hosting the highly successful International Series. DeChambeau will be accompanied by his Crushers GC teammates Paul Casey and Anirban Lahiri, while Carlos Ortiz from Torque GC will team up with his captain Joaquin Niemann, alongside fellow countryman Abraham Ancer of Fireballs GC.

Additional confirmations include Mito Pereira and Sebastian Munoz, completing the lineup of Torque GC players, while Harold Varner III of 4Aces GC brings his exceptional skills to the renowned Gary Player-designed course at the award-winning DLF Golf and Country Club.

Andy Ogletree, the champion of the 2023 International Series Rankings and a three-time winner, is also set to compete alongside Peter Uihlein of RangeGoats GC, who was a two-time champion last season and a runner-up in the rankings behind Niemann.

The 2024 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner John Catlin, who made waves as an alternate in the LIV Golf League last season after securing back-to-back victories at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn and the Saudi Open presented by PIF, is confirmed to play alongside fellow Americans Caleb Surratt of Legion XIII and Cameron Tringale of HyFlyers GC.

Rahul Singh, Head of The International Series, stated, “This impressive field, featuring a mix of renowned names, skilled champions, and rising talent, exemplifies the essence of The International Series.”

Sharing the stage with these international stars are prominent Indian golfers boasting an extensive array of titles. Alongside Lahiri, a former Asian Tour Order of Merit winner in 2015, are two more former winners: Shubhankar Sharma (2018) and Indian golf legend Jeev Milkha Singh (2006 and 2008). The field is further bolstered by Gaganjeet Bhullar, the highest-ever Indian winner on the Asian Tour with 11 titles.

“This is a remarkable opportunity for golf enthusiasts from the subcontinent to witness outstanding golf and celebrate India's significant role in the global golf scene,” added Rahul.

Among the 10 confirmed Indian professionals, eight have won on the Asian Tour: Bhullar (11), Lahiri (7), Jeev Milkha Singh (6), SSP Chawrasia (6), Sharma (2), Rashid Khan (2), Rahil Gangjee (2), and Ajeetesh Sandhu (1). The other confirmed Indian players are Yuvraj Sandhu and Karandeep Kochhar, while Shiv Kapur, a four-time Asian Tour winner, stands as the first reserve.

Notably, Lahiri (T-5 at the 2015 PGA), Sharma (T-8 at the 2023 Open), and Jeev Milkha (T-9 at the 2008 PGA) are the only Indian players to have placed in the Top-10 of a Major.

A promising newcomer is teenage amateur Kartik Singh, who secured third place at the 2024 Junior Players Championship. The 15-year-old, recognized as the highest-ranked Indian amateur, has also participated in the Junior Presidents Cup and was part of the victorious Asia-Pacific team that defeated Europe to claim the esteemed Bonallack Trophy in the UAE earlier this month.

New LIV Golf recruits Luis Masaveu of Fireballs GC and Frederik Kjettrup of Cleeks GC are also in the mix, with this Indian event serving as an excellent preparation for their upcoming debuts in the season’s opening fixture at LIV Golf Riyadh the following week.

Thailand’s Suteepat Prateeptienchai, the champion of the Yeangder TPC and Taiwan Glass Taifong Open, is another notable two-time 2024 winner in this lineup, joining Uihlein and Catlin.

Two more champions from last season’s International Series, BNI Indonesian Masters winner Richard T Lee and MJ Maguire, who triumphed over Catlin in a play-off at the Black Mountain Championship, are also confirmed for the Gurugram event.

Champions from Thailand, England, South Africa, and Korea, including Rattanon Wannasrichan (SJM Macao Open), Steve Lewton (Mandiri Indonesia Open), Jbe Kruger (Mercuries Taiwan Masters), and the Korean duo Hongtaek Kim (GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship) and Minkyu Kim (Kolon Korea Open), will further enhance the tournament’s competitive spirit.

The International Series India presented by DLF marks the inaugural appearance of the LIV Golf-backed series on the subcontinent. This event serves as the first of 10 elevated tournaments on this season's Asian Tour, with future stops planned in places like Macau, Morocco, Indonesia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia, among others to be announced soon.

This series offers a global pathway for players to qualify for the LIV Golf League, with the season-ending rankings champion securing a guaranteed position in the next season's roster. Additionally, The International Series Rankings provide players with a second chance to earn their spots in the LIV Golf League through the innovative LIV Golf Promotions event.
