New Delhi, Nov 27 (NationPress) Deepti Sharma has been acquired by UP Warriorz for ₹3.2 crore through the right-to-match option, securing her position as one of the joint-second most valuable players in the WPL. Initially, she was sold to Delhi Capitals for her base price of ₹50 lakh, but the Warriorz exercised their RTM option, prompting DC to finalize the bidding amount.
The three-time runner-up has confirmed the ₹3.2 crore bid, leading to the return of the World Cup-winning all-rounder for a premium price.
Deepti expressed her excitement about rejoining UPW during JioHotstar’s ‘Match Centre Live Auction Special’ after the team triumphed in the bidding contest against DC.
“Being from Uttar Pradesh, I have strong connections with UP Warriorz. The management has consistently been fantastic and supportive. The auction was exhilarating from the outset, and I’m thrilled that UP Warriorz has brought me back. I can’t wait to represent them again,” she shared.
“The WPL has significantly influenced my growth. The year I won MVP, and even before that, my rigorous practice to enhance my batting techniques really paid off. That season was crucial for my evolution as a batter, teaching me how to strategically increase my strike-rate by adapting my gameplay. For me, that’s the biggest advantage of the WPL.”
“The atmosphere has been wonderful since the beginning. I’m really optimistic seeing new players from various teams join UP Warriorz. Having previously played with many of them fosters a friendly environment. The management remains incredibly supportive, and as I stated earlier, the changes I implemented in my batting two years ago were transformative for me.”
Deepti also commented on the Warriorz recruiting up-and-coming Australian player Phoebe Litchfield and the legendary Meg Lanning, emphasizing the WPL’s impact on her development as a batter while mentioning Litchfield as her most awaited new teammate.
“It’s challenging to choose just one because players like Phoebe Litchfield and Meg Lanning are excelling. Meg Lanning has been remarkable in the Big Bash League, while Harleen Deol shone during the World Cup. All these signings are exciting, but if I had to select one, I’d go with Phoebe Litchfield.”
