Delhi Golf Club to Host Historic $4 Million Golf Tournament

New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) India's position on the international golfing scene is about to receive a significant enhancement with the introduction of a new 4 million USD tournament, marking the highest prize fund ever for a professional golf event in the nation.

Set to take place from October 16-19 at the prestigious Delhi Golf Club, this tournament is co-sanctioned by the global tour and the national professional golf circuit, DP World Tour. It will be a pivotal event leading up to the 2025 Race to Dubai calendar.

This championship symbolizes India's emerging status as not only a rising golfing destination but also a serious player in the sports market. Following the success of this year’s Hero Indian Open, it further solidifies the region's trajectory in hosting elite golf competitions.

The event also signifies a nostalgic return of the global tour to Delhi Golf Club, the last occurrence being in 2016. Established in the 1930s, the historic Lodhi Course, which hosted the inaugural Indian Open in 1964, has seen significant renovations—most recently in 2019—to meet modern championship standards.

Officials have expressed enthusiasm regarding the tournament's ability to uplift golf in India. The managing director for the host area emphasized the event as a reflection of their long-term dedication to expanding the sport in the country.

“We are focused on enhancing the game in every possible way and creating community impact. This tournament guarantees that golf continues to develop in thrilling ways,” he stated.

The chief tournament and operations officer of the tour echoed this sentiment, mentioning that the inclusion of this event aligns with a mutual vision to promote the sport in India. “We’re excited to return to such a legendary venue and offer more playing chances for both local and international professionals,” he added.

Former cricketer and President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), Kapil Dev, described this as a historic moment for Indian golf. “This tournament showcases the growing prominence of Indian golf on the global stage. The president of Delhi Golf Club, Raj Khosla, also welcomed the return of global golf to the venue. “This course possesses a unique allure with ancient Lodhi-era monuments and convenient city-center access.
