RCB vs SRH IPL 2026: Dinesh Karthik urges hunger ahead of Qualifier
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting coach and mentor Dinesh Karthik has urged his side to stay hungry and carry winning momentum into the IPL 2026 playoffs, ahead of their final league-stage fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday in Hyderabad. RCB, who have already secured a playoff berth, currently sit at the top of the standings with 18 points from 13 matches.
Why Friday's Game Still Matters
Despite the playoff spot being confirmed, Karthik stressed that the SRH clash is far from a dead rubber. A win, he argued, would send RCB into the Qualifier with the kind of confidence that knockout cricket demands.
'Look, I know we have qualified for the playoffs. We can take it easily. But I think it's as important as any other game for us. Because if we win this one, we'll go with the momentum in the first qualifiers. SRH is a solid team. And that's the reason why they are in the top three. And they've played some wonderful cricket,' Karthik said in a video posted by RCB on X.
Karthik's Message: No Room for Complacency
Karthik, the former India wicketkeeper-batter, was candid about the mindset he wants the squad to carry into the business end of the tournament. He acknowledged the strong campaign across both departments but resisted any sense of satisfaction.
'I think it's been a terrific campaign with the ball and bat. I personally don't want to feel like everything is great; it's just a mindset of mine. I just feel you need to keep wanting some more even though there's very little part of the tournament left,' he said.
He added that the character shown by the current RCB group has been a standout feature of the season. 'That hunger is important for you to keep moving forward, and I couldn't have asked anything more in terms of character that they've shown, and that pretty much says everything you need to know about the current RCB team.'
Collective Effort and Room to Improve
Karthik also pointed to the team's collective work ethic as a key driver of their campaign. He noted that individual players have arrived each match with specific targets to improve, whether in batting, bowling, or fielding.
'Each have come with a plan to work on a certain specific thing and try to make sure that they're better. There are conversations, there's a collective effort in trying to play another good game of cricket,' he said.
SRH Clash Sets Up Qualifier Positioning
A victory on Friday could consolidate RCB's position at the summit and potentially secure a top-two finish, which would grant them two bites at the Qualifier cherry. SRH, also in the top three, will be equally motivated to protect their own playoff seeding. The match shapes up as one of the more consequential final-day league fixtures of the IPL 2026 season.
