New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) A former cricketer from Pakistan has revealed his aspiration for a biopic based on his life, wishing for it to be helmed by either Anurag Kashyap or Farhan Akhtar.
In a conversation with IANS, maintaining his anonymity, he mentioned, "The film will be filled with emotion, drama, the India-Pakistan partition, and Dawood Ibrahim’s intense interest in cricket and cricketers."
Kashyap and Akhtar are renowned directors and actors who have created some landmark films in Bollywood, including Gangs of Wasseypur and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. However, Kashyap has distanced himself from Bollywood, citing the industry's unreasonable demands for films to earn Rs 500 or Rs 800 crore.
Pakistan boasts a massive cricket fan base, akin to India's. Yet, a biopic featuring any Pakistani cricketer has yet to be produced. Reports indicate that the biopic of Imran Khan, the captain of the 1992 World Cup-winning team and former Prime Minister, titled Kaptaan, has been in development for more than a decade.
Currently, Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since the middle of 2023 due to multiple legal challenges.
Previously, Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad had expressed interest in having Brad Pitt portray him in a potential biographical film.
In contrast, India has witnessed the release of biopics on former captains such as MS Dhoni (M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story), Mohammad Azharuddin (Azhar), and Mithali Raj (Shabaash Mithu). Furthermore, a documentary chronicling the life of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar (Sachin - A Billion Dreams) was unveiled in 2017.
Moreover, the biopic of former Indian fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, titled Chakda 'Xpress, featuring actress Anushka Sharma, is yet to hit theaters, while Yuvraj Singh's biopic was announced by T-Series last year, with details about the title and cast still pending from the production company.
