New Delhi, May 28 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa anticipates that the IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 showdown between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scheduled to take place in Mullanpur on Thursday, promises to be an exhilarating contest.
Uthappa noted that although RCB secured a six-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Kings, PBKS may hold an advantage as they compete on their home turf, the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
The victor of this match will advance directly to the championship battle on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the losing squad will face off against the eliminator winner at the same venue on June 1. RCB has a mere day to regroup from their Tuesday night win over LSG at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
“Both Punjab Kings and RCB are riding a wave of momentum. This game is going to be a real thriller. While Punjab has a slight upper hand playing at home, RCB can absolutely rise to the occasion,” Uthappa stated on JioHotstar.
RCB’s remarkable six-wicket victory, bolstered by strong performances from Virat Kohli and temporary captain Jitesh Sharma, keeps their dream of claiming their first IPL title alive, having finished second in the points table with 19 points, while PBKS topped the table due to their superior net run rate.
Uthappa, who has celebrated IPL triumphs with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, believes Kohli will be highly motivated to excel once more for RCB during the playoffs. “From this victory (over LSG), one person who will be driven is Virat Kohli. He has another chance to push RCB toward that IPL championship — a trophy he truly desires in his collection.
“Players like Jitesh Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, and Nuwan Thushara have all stepped up. Their collective performance with both bat and ball has been outstanding. They rightfully belong in the top two. The belief and conviction they demonstrated were remarkable,” he concluded.
