New Delhi, July 11 (NationPress) - The Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Goa has made an official announcement regarding the exit of their Spanish centre-back and club captain Odei Onaindia.
His remarkable ability to read the game, coupled with his aerial prowess and composure under pressure, established him as one of the league's most reliable defenders.
Onaindia joined the Gaurs prior to the 2023–24 season, reuniting with head coach Manolo Marquez from Hyderabad FC. This transition allowed him to quickly adapt to a tactical system he was familiar with, forming a robust partnership with Sandesh Jhingan. The duo significantly contributed to FC Goa's solid defensive record over the last two seasons, as noted in the ISL.
“Our Captain poured his heart and soul into every tackle and every match. He wore the orange jersey with immense pride and led us to triumph,” the club stated.
“For two unforgettable years, he exemplified what it means to be a Gaur, both on and off the pitch. Thank you, @onaindia.odei. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors; once a Gaur, always a Gaur,” the post continued.
Even after Jhingan’s injury, Onaindia proved to be a steadfast presence in defense, developing a strong rapport with Nim Dorjee during the latter part of the season and the start of the next.
Onaindia was instrumental defensively, contributing to eight of FC Goa’s nine clean sheets in the 2023–24 season. The team secured a third-place finish in the regular season but faced elimination in the semi-finals against Mumbai City FC.
In the subsequent season, he continued to lead the defense with poise and control, helping FC Goa achieve a second-place finish, although they were again eliminated in the semi-finals, this time by Bengaluru FC.
FC Goa's significant achievement came in the 2025 Kalinga Super Cup, where they triumphed over Jamshedpur FC to claim the title. Under Onaindia’s leadership, the defense conceded only two goals throughout the tournament.
