New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) World champion powerlifter Mahant Gaurav Sharma has vehemently condemned the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals and left many others wounded.

The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon in the picturesque Baisaran Valley, a beautiful meadow situated around six kilometers from the renowned tourist destination of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorists opened fire on a gathering of tourists and locals, leading to 26 fatalities and numerous injuries.

Sharing his sorrow and outrage over the event, Sharma stated, "I am profoundly disturbed by the tragic loss of innocent lives in this brutal terror attack at Pahalgam. This was a despicable act. I extend my sincere condolences to the grieving families and offer prayers for the souls who have departed. The Indian government must take vigorous measures against those accountable for this vile attack."

Sharma further urged for a complete cessation of all cricketing relations with Pakistan, including matches in ICC tournaments.

"The BCCI should refrain from any cricketing engagement with Pakistan, even in ICC events. A clear signal must be sent: if you endorse terrorism, we will not sustain any sporting connections. Enough is enough; firm and resolute action is essential," he emphasized.

Political strains between the two nations have resulted in the Indian team avoiding travel to Pakistan since 2008, and they have not faced each other outside of major men's tournaments since 2013.

Recent tensions also escalated when India declined to visit Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, compelling the Pakistan Cricket Board to accept a hybrid format for their first home tournament since 2006. The PCB has announced that their women's cricket team will not travel to India later this year for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup in September. The Pakistan women will compete at a neutral venue.

On Wednesday, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla also addressed the future of India and Pakistan in ICC events, stating, "India and Pakistan do not engage in bilateral series, and we will continue to adhere to the directives of the Government," Shukla informed IANS.
