New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) Gujarat Titans all-rounder Glenn Phillips will be sidelined for the rest of the IPL 2025 season after heading back home due to a groin injury. This injury occurred during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 6, which GT won by seven wickets.
During that match, Phillips entered as a substitute fielder in the final over of the powerplay but suffered a groin strain while attempting to throw the ball towards the wicketkeeper at point. Following immediate medical attention from the physio, he required assistance to exit the field.
“Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a quick recovery,” stated the franchise on Saturday. GT had secured the services of the New Zealand all-rounder at last year’s mega auction for a base price of Rs 2 crore, but he has not played a game for the team in IPL 2025 before his injury.
Currently, there is no information regarding who GT will bring in as Phillips' replacement. The IPL 2022 champions are already missing fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who has returned to South Africa for a personal matter.
GT's current overseas player options include England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford, South African fast-bowler Gerald Coetzee, and Afghanistan’s bowling all-rounders Rashid Khan and Karim Janat.
Led by Shubman Gill, GT is currently topping the points table with four wins and one loss in their first five matches of IPL 2025. Their next match is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium on Saturday afternoon, followed by a home game against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 19.
