Wembley, April 28 (NationPress) Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola emphasized that his team should not mistake their success in reaching the FA Cup final for a successful season, as this marks their third consecutive appearance in the prestigious match.
A remarkable all-around performance allowed City to defeat a determined Nottingham Forest 2-0 during the semi-final at Wembley. This victory secured City's spot in the FA Cup final for the third time in a row and marked their seventh consecutive semi-final appearance in this tournament.
By reaching the FA Cup final, City has maintained their last opportunity for silverware in the 2024-25 season.
"The damage would be minimal. It’s not going to confuse that the season has been good. The club needs to make the right decisions to ensure next season is better. We are a thousand million points behind Liverpool. This season hasn’t been good because what defines it is the Premier League. Since I have been here, we’ve always been in the mix, but we need to minimize the damage and qualify for the Champions League," stated Guardiola.
"We have five days to prepare for a team like Wolves, who are performing very well. We have four finals remaining in the league, and I’m incredibly pleased to face Crystal Palace here. Yesterday, you witnessed how impressive they are," he added.
Guardiola also praised the outstanding performance of Lewis, who was a surprising choice in central midfield alongside Mateo Kovacic, while Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan were among those on the bench.
"Rico and Nico O’Reilly played exceptionally well. I’m really pleased. Rico contributes significantly as a full-back, moving inside, but his ideal position is in the pocket. He navigates tight spaces excellently, much like Phil Foden. It’s crucial to be aggressive in the next action. Since he joined us, Rico has been outstanding.
"When we perform well and push opponents back into the final third, we require players who can maneuver in those confined areas. Rico is one of the best I’ve ever encountered at doing that. He showcased his incredible quality with the goal," Guardiola remarked.
