Wembley, April 28 (NationPress) - Manchester City secured their place in the Emirates FA Cup Final for the third consecutive year with a commanding 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
Rico Lewis opened the scoring early, followed by a second-half header from Josko Gvardiol, ensuring Pep Guardiola's squad will clash with Crystal Palace on May 17.
The seven-time Emirates FA Cup champions controlled a largely uneventful first half after Lewis' goal and managed to maintain their lead after Gvardiol added another just six minutes into the second half.
Despite a sluggish start, Forest put up a strong fight in the second half, hitting the woodwork three times, but were unable to break through, continuing their wait for a first FA Cup Final appearance since 1991.
City manager Pep Guardiola stated, “Seven semi-finals in a row, three finals speaks volumes about this generation of players and this Club itself. We are delighted to be there. This season has been challenging, primarily defined by the Premier League.”
He added, “We have five days to prepare for a strong Wolves team. We are aiming for four finals in the league and are thrilled to face Crystal Palace, who demonstrated their quality yesterday.”
Man of the Match Rico Lewis expressed, “I’m absolutely delighted with my goal. It’s a role I enjoy, different from being a full-back and moving inside. Today was a challenging match, but we showed resilience and managed to pull through.”
The 2024/25 FA Cup final will take place between Crystal Palace and Manchester City at Wembley on May 17.
A triumph in the FA Cup final would mark Guardiola’s 19th major achievement as the head of Manchester City.
