How Did Gujarat Titans Secure a 38-Run Win Over SRH in IPL 2025?

Ahmedabad, May 2 (NationPress) Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj each claimed two wickets, leading the Gujarat Titans to a decisive 38-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 51 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday.

This defeat leaves SRH nearly eliminated, having secured only three wins out of ten matches. The Gujarat Titans have ascended to the second position, surpassing Royal Challengers Bengaluru based on net run rate, accumulating 14 points.

Sunrisers Hyderabad were tasked with chasing a daunting target of 225, bolstered by half-centuries from Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler of the Gujarat Titans. The formidable opening pair of Abhishek Sharma (74) and Travis Head (20) started strongly, launching a six and a four off Mohammed Siraj in the very first over.

Abhishek's aggressive batting kept the runs flowing, but Ishan Kishan (13) struggled significantly, failing to score a single boundary in his 17-ball innings. Despite Abhishek and Heinrich Klassen (23) hitting Rashid Khan for sixes in the 11th over, the game continued to slip away from the visitors.

Abhishek achieved his first half-century of the season in the 12th over with a six off Gerald Coetzee. He ultimately scored 74 off 41 balls at a strike rate of 180.49 before falling to a pull shot that Siraj caught at deep midwicket, shifting the momentum firmly towards GT.

Krishna contributed to SRH's woes by claiming Klassen's wicket, marking his 100th in T20. The Sunrisers’ batting order collapsed subsequently, with power-hitter Aniket Verma (3) caught at long-on. Siraj's short ball then dismissed Kamindu Mendis (0), caught by Jos Buttler.

With 65 runs needed and only 12 balls left, SRH's hopes dwindled. A few late sixes from Pat Cummins (19*) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (21*) off Rashid provided some excitement, but they concluded their innings at 186/6.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans scored 224/6 in 20 overs, thanks to fifties from Gill and Buttler, along with a rapid 48 from Sai Sudharsan. On the bowling side, Jaydev Unadkat was the standout with three wickets. Gill showcased exceptional shot selection, scoring 76 off 38 deliveries, which included 10 boundaries and two sixes.

Unfortunately for Gill, this marked the third consecutive innings where he failed to convert a promising start into a century, following scores of 90 and 84 in previous matches.

After being asked to bat first by SRH, Gill wasted no time making his intentions clear, hitting a six off Mohammed Shami on the third delivery. Sudharsan also made his presence felt, striking five boundaries in the third over. Gill's explosive innings continued, hitting two boundaries off Pat Cummins and another maximum.

Sudharsan kept up the momentum with four boundaries off Harshal Patel, helping Gujarat Titans achieve an impressive 82/0 in the power play. However, Sudharsan's efforts ended when a googly from Zeeshan Ansari led to his dismissal.

Despite the loss of wickets, Gill continued to pile on runs, including two boundaries off Shami and Kamindu Mendis, while Buttler kept the scoreboard moving. Unadkat, who had not taken a wicket until the final over, secured three scalps in quick succession.
