New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) The Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati will be hosting its inaugural Test match during the Indian men's cricket team’s 2025/26 home season, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.
Previously known for hosting only international white-ball matches and some Indian Premier League (IPL) games, Guwahati will welcome its first Test match when India faces South Africa in the second and final match of the series on November 22. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first city in the North-East region of India to host a Test match.
The Test series between India and South Africa will kick off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from November 14 to November 18. The last Test series conducted in India by South Africa was in 2019, wherein they were defeated 3-0, losing matches in Visakhapatnam, Pune, and Ranchi.
Prior to this, India will engage in two Test matches against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2-6 and at Eden Gardens in Kolkata from October 10-14. The West Indies last visited India for a Test series in 2018, failing to win in the two matches played in Rajkot and Hyderabad.
After concluding their Test commitments, India will play a white-ball series against South Africa. The three-match ODI series is scheduled for JSCA Stadium in Ranchi (Nov 30), Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur (Dec 3), and Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam (Dec 6).
This will be followed by a five-match T20I series between India and South Africa at several venues including Barabati Stadium in Cuttack (Dec 9), Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh (Dec 11), HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala (Dec 14), BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow (Dec 17), and Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad (Dec 19).
This series is vital for both teams as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by defending champions India and Sri Lanka. Last year, India won a four-match T20I series against South Africa by 3-1, securing victory by seven runs in the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup final in Barbados.
