The squad will be led by veteran drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh, who continues as captain for this continental event. The team comprises an experienced lineup, showcasing depth and balance in all positions.
This tournament is crucial for India as it serves as a qualifier for the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium-Netherlands 2026, placing India in Pool A alongside Japan, China, and Kazakhstan. India will kick off their campaign against China on August 29, followed by matches against Japan on August 31 and Kazakhstan on September 1.
The goalkeeping responsibilities will be handled by the reliable Krishan B Pathak and Suraj Karkera. In defense, Captain Harmanpreet will be supported by Amit Rohidas, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sumit, Sanjay, and Jugraj Singh, ensuring a solid backline.
The midfield is anchored by Manpreet Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Rajinder Singh, Raj Kumar Pal, and Hardik Singh. The forward line, featuring Mandeep Singh, Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, Shilanand Lakra, and Dilpreet Singh, promises to deliver significant attacking prowess against rival defenses.
Additionally, Nilam Sanjeep Xess and Selvam Karthi are named as alternate players.
Commenting on the squad selection, coach Craig Fulton stated, “We have opted for an experienced group that knows how to perform under pressure. The Asia Cup is vital for us due to the World Cup qualification, so we require players with the composure and expertise to succeed. This selection embodies our goal — to field a competitive team that can excel.”
