ICC Imposes a 6-Year Ban on Sunny Dhillon for Violating Anti-Corruption Regulations

Dubai, Dec 10 (NationPress) Sunny Dhillon, a former assistant coach of a franchise team, has received a six-year ban from all cricket activities after an Anti-Corruption Tribunal determined he was guilty of violating the Emirates Cricket Board’s (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code, as announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday.
Dhillon was one of eight individuals charged last year for breaching the Code. The allegations are connected to the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League and attempts to corrupt matches during that tournament, which were interrupted by the ICC’s Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for the ECB’s Code pertaining to the event.
After a comprehensive hearing and the submission of both written and oral arguments, the Tribunal concluded that Dhillon was guilty of:
Article 2.1.1 – Being involved in an attempt to fix, contrive, or improperly influence matches or elements of matches during the Abu Dhabi T10 2021.
Article 2.4.4 - Not disclosing to the DACO the complete details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code.
Article 2.4.6 – Failing or refusing to cooperate with any investigation conducted by the DACO regarding potential corrupt conduct under the Code without a compelling justification.
The ban is retroactively effective from September 13, 2023, the date when Dhillon was provisionally suspended.
