Indian golfers are set to mount a formidable challenge at the inaugural IGPL Morocco Rising Stars, as the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Tour touches down in El Jadida, Morocco for the fifth stop of its 2026 international calendar. The tournament runs from 28–31 May at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, with a prize purse of USD 160,000 over 72 holes.

Tournament Details and Format

The Morocco Rising Stars event is co-sanctioned by the AM Green IGPL and the Asian Development Tour (ADT), marking the first time the IGPL has been staged in Morocco. The field is stacked: it includes three of the four AM Green IGPL Tour winners from the current season, all four ADT winners of 2026, and nine of the top 10 players in the ADT Order of Merit.

The venue, Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, is an 18-hole course on Morocco's Atlantic coast designed by nine-time Major winner Gary Player. Regarded as one of the longest courses in Morocco, it combines scenic ocean views with a demanding layout that is expected to test the field thoroughly.

India's Key Challengers

The Indian challenge will be spearheaded by Pukhraj Singh Gill, winner of the 2025 AM Green IGPL Order of Merit and a recent ADT title-holder in Malaysia. Alongside him is Karandeep Kochhar, a regular on both the ADT and the Asian Tour who claimed an ADT title in Egypt last year.

Top-ranked AM Green IGPL player Sachin Baisoya is also in the field, joined by Veer Ganapathy and Aman Raj, who currently hold third and fifth positions respectively in the IGPL rankings. Other prominent names include two-time Asian Tour winner Rashid Khan, Shaurya Bhattacharya, Shubham Jaglan, Kartik Singh, and former Asian Tour winner Khalin Joshi.

What the IGPL CEO Said

Uttam Singh Mundy, CEO of IGPL, highlighted the significance of the Morocco leg. 'This is a very exciting phase of the IGPL. We had successful outings in Mauritius, South Africa and Congo and now a co-sanctioned event in Morocco. It opens a whole new world for our golfers and Pukhraj Gill's recent success in Malaysia and Manav Shah's qualification for US Open shows that our golfers are benefitting from international exposure and stronger competition. Morocco is a great golfing destination and I am sure our players will enjoy the place and the golf courses and benefit from it,' Mundy said.

The Bigger Morocco Swing

The Rising Stars event kicks off a three-week golfing stretch in Morocco. It will be followed by the AM Green IGPL Bharath Classic from 4–7 June at the same venue, before the USD 2 million International Series Morocco presented by Visit Morocco takes place from 11–14 June. A large Indian contingent is expected to compete across all three events.

The ADT had debuted in Morocco last year with two Rising Stars editions, won by Filipino cousins Aidric Chan and Carl Jano Corpus, both of whom return to the field this week. Earlier stops on the 2026 tour included Chandigarh, Mauritius, Johannesburg, and Congo. After the Morocco leg, the tour returns to India for the bulk of its remaining events.

Point of View

The league is constructing a genuine pathway from domestic Indian golf to the upper tier of Asian professional golf. Manav Shah's US Open qualification and Pukhraj Gill's ADT win in Malaysia are early validation, but the real test is whether sustained international exposure translates into consistent top-50 Asian Tour rankings for a broader group of Indian players, not just a handful of frontrunners.
