New Delhi, Jan 7 (NationPress) Delivering an outstanding performance, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi pulled off a stunning upset against world No. 60 Ada Kumru in the girls' singles category of the ITF J300 event, where the top seed and favorite for the title Yoana Konstantinova was also ousted on Day Two of the tournament.

Hailing from Coimbatore, Maaya has demonstrated significant progress recently, highlighting her growth with an impressive 6-1, 7-6(1) victory over the fourth seed from Turkiye during the opening round at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) Complex. The 15-year-old Maaya currently holds a world ranking of 139 and has recently joined the Rafael Nadal Academy. Despite the substantial ranking difference, Maaya's court coverage and shot selection were exceptional as she managed to fend off a determined comeback from her seasoned opponent in the second round.

With this victory, Maaya has joined fellow countrywomen Rishitha Reddy Basireddy and Aishwarya Jadhav in the singles pre-quarterfinals. Although Konstantinova was regarded as a strong contender, Naito, who is not even ranked within the top-400, caused a significant upset by defeating her with a score of 6-3, 6-1.

The second seed from France, Eleejah Inisan, also encountered tough competition from Japan's Miaki Yamagishi but managed to win 7-6(4), 6-1. However, it was a disappointing day for India in the boys' event, as all three players in action faced first-round exits.

Aarjun Pandit faced the top seed Daniel Tazabekov, managing to win only two games. After suffering a bagel in the first set, Aarjun attempted to regroup but ultimately fell to the formidable Kazakh player with a score of 6-0, 6-2.

In a similar vein, Sehaj Singh Pawar experienced a straightforward defeat, losing 1-6, 1-6 to Singapore's Maximus Zavier Wong. On the other hand, Arjun Rathi displayed resilience before losing his opening round, pushing Latvia's Arturs Zagras before succumbing with a score of 3-6, 6-7(3). Additionally, Japan's Kanata Ozaki eliminated the third seed Haydar Cem Gokipnar from Turkiye with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
