New Chandigarh, April 11 (NationPress) In a thrilling encounter at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with an outstanding unbeaten score of 69. Alongside him, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh made vital contributions with rapid half-centuries, helping Punjab Kings (PBKS) successfully chase down a formidable target of 220 runs, finishing at 223/4 in just 18.5 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the 17th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

This victory keeps PBKS undefeated this season, accumulating seven points from four matches, despite one game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) being called off due to inclement weather.

In pursuit of a challenging total, PBKS made a spectacular start. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh attacked the SRH bowlers relentlessly. Priyansh set the pace, hitting aggressive shots all over the field.

He scored a remarkable 21 runs in the last over of the Power-play off Harshal Patel, reaching his fifty in an astonishing 16 balls with consecutive boundaries, marking the second-fastest fifty for PBKS, trailing only behind KL Rahul’s record 14-ball half-century in 2018. By the end of the Power-play, PBKS stood at a commanding 93/0.

SRH finally broke through in the seventh over when Shivang Kumar dismissed Priyansh Arya, who had blazed to 57 off just 20 balls, hitting five fours and five sixes. Shivang struck again shortly after, removing Prabhsimran Singh post his swift fifty in 24 balls, contributing 51 runs with four fours and four sixes. Despite losing these wickets, PBKS maintained a strong position at 124/2 after 10 overs.

Shivang continued to shine, claiming another wicket by dismissing Cooper Connolly with a wide delivery outside off stump.

Captain Shreyas Iyer stabilized the innings alongside impact substitute Nehal Wadhera. The duo effectively rotated the strike and punished loose deliveries, keeping the pressure on SRH.

After the 13th over, Iyer accelerated, reaching his fifty in just 24 balls with a six off Eshan Malinga in the 16th over. He remained not out at 69, while Shashank Singh contributed an unbeaten 16, leading PBKS to victory with seven balls remaining and six wickets in hand.

For SRH, Shivang Kumar was the standout bowler, concluding with figures of 3/33 in his four overs, while Harsh Dubey added one wicket to the tally.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad started strongly after being invited to bat, with openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head attacking right from the start. Abhishek led the charge, scoring 20 runs in a single over off Arshdeep Singh and reaching his fifty in a mere 18 balls with two consecutive sixes. Head also played aggressively, hitting three boundaries in one over, propelling SRH to 105/0 at the end of the powerplay.

Punjab Kings made a comeback in the ninth over when Shashank Singh dismissed Head for 38, breaking the 120-run opening partnership. Just two balls later, Abhishek was also out for a fantastic 78 off 28 balls, featuring five fours and eight sixes.

Post the quick dismissals, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen steadied the innings by rotating the strike. However, Arshdeep Singh broke their partnership by getting Kishan out for 27. SRH lost further momentum when Aniket Verma was run out due to a mix-up, and Salil Arora managed only 9 runs.

Klaasen struggled to accelerate, scoring 39 off 33 balls, as SRH could only muster 43 runs in the last five overs. Shashank Singh shone with two wickets, while Arshdeep also claimed two, and Xavier Bartlett took one.
