New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) India’s left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is preparing to join the Mumbai squad in anticipation of their upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) encounter against Goa on December 31, as confirmed by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar.

Jaiswal, who will celebrate his 24th birthday on Sunday, was absent from Mumbai’s first two matches in Jaipur due to recovery from acute gastroenteritis. “Yashasvi will feature in the game against Goa on December 31. He is expected to join the team either on the evening of the 29th or the morning of the 30th,” Khanvilkar informed IANS on Sunday.

Earlier this month, Jaiswal was hospitalized due to stomach cramps following Mumbai’s final Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League match against Rajasthan, where tests confirmed acute gastroenteritis, leading doctors to recommend a week’s rest.

With the seasoned Indian opener Rohit Sharma having batted for Mumbai in their first two matches of the tournament, Jaiswal is poised to take his place starting with the match against Goa, which will take place at the Anantam Ground on New Year’s Eve.

Jaiswal is anticipated to participate in more matches for Mumbai during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, contingent upon India’s squad selection for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, commencing in Vadodara on January 11.

This year, Jaiswal recorded an impressive 116 not out, marking his first ODI century, in the series decider against South Africa, which India won by nine wickets at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. He had opened the innings alongside Rohit Sharma and will reunite with the former Indian captain.

Mumbai, captained by the all-rounder Shardul Thakur, has made a remarkable start to their 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign, securing an eight-wicket victory over Sikkim in their first Elite Group C match, followed by a 51-run win against Uttarakhand. They are set to face Chhattisgarh in the third round of the competition at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground on Monday.
