London, July 31 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar opines that Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal during the ongoing fifth Test against England stemmed from the left-handed opener's failure to connect with a straight delivery while attempting to cover his off-stump.

Jaiswal commenced the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series impressively with a significant century at Headingley. However, he now faces the possibility of concluding the series on a disappointing note after being trapped lbw for a mere two runs by a full wobble-seam delivery from pacer Gus Atkinson at The Oval.

"Typically, the understanding is that when bowlers approach from around the wicket, batters tend to cover their stumps consistently. The margin for error is extremely minimal if you miss the ball. That is why I believe it’s advisable to position yourself closer to the middle stump," Bangar explained.

"However, if you begin from the off stump and constantly aim to cover it, missing a straight delivery leaves you with no chance at all. That’s precisely what occurred with Jaiswal," added Bangar, who is also a former batting coach for India, while speaking on JioHotstar.

Varun Aaron, another former Indian pacer, shared his thoughts on KL Rahul's dismissal, where he inadvertently chopped the ball onto his stumps for 14 runs off Chris Woakes. "It was an exemplary display from an opening batter. Although he only scored 14 runs, I was captivated by his batting style," he remarked.

"Regardless of the ball's trajectory, he executed everything perfectly until his dismissal. Rahul perceived this delivery as a prime opportunity to score, having successfully utilized a cut shot previously. Unfortunately, the ball veered in slightly, which led to the inside edge," he elaborated.

"KL Rahul must feel quite disappointed because he navigated the most challenging part of the innings, which involved heavy overcast conditions and a tricky pitch for opening batsmen. Getting out in such a manner, especially to a ball he should have handled better, would be disheartening for him," he concluded.

Aaron also expressed that England could have performed better during the initial session, which was curtailed by rain, with India reaching 72/2 in 23 overs. "England's bowling could have been more effective. Even someone like Chris Woakes wasn’t consistently targeting the stumps and failing to maintain the ideal length," he pointed out.

"They bowled quite short, challenging both the outside and inside edges. On a pitch like this, you need to bowl slightly fuller to truly challenge the batsmen around the stump line. The moment you pitch it too short, the chances of taking wickets diminish. England wouldn’t be satisfied with just two wickets, although India finds itself in a favorable position," he concluded.
